THINGS TO DO // Totnes in Spring
Here is a taster of some of the great things going on around the town to fill your days, and evenings, during your stay with us in Totnes. Some of our fave bits to get up to are …
DARTINGTON HALL //
The beacon of arts and culture locally is Dartington Estate, there are some wonderful workshops, events and talks happening this year … From National Theatre live screenings in The Barn, to the material based art courses and workshops diving into worlds such as Regenerative Practices in Food & Farming and Sustainable Growing from Schumacher College … how can you not want to immerse yourself?
TOTNES CINEMA //
After renovating the old Romany cinema from the 1950’s, Totnes Cinema is one of the most beautiful gems to visit in the town - with independent film screenings, coffee shop, live jazz and even cocktails..! With movies like ‘Boiling Point’ and ‘C’mon C’mon’ coming up, cosy into one of their velvet chairs for a mesmerising show!
SOUTH WEST COASTAL PATH //
Britain’s longest and best loved National trail, there are plenty of points on the 630 mile route that you can reach for a stroll as part of your stay. Even heading down the High Street, you can walk part of the route; along the Dart Estuary heading out towards Dartmouth, even catching the Round Robin boat trip back up to Totnes. With cliffs, sea and sand nearby, some of the most beautiful views we’ve come across are so close to us at The Bull!
RIVERFORD FIELD KITCHEN //
With veg-centric seasonal feasts, The Field Kitchen is one of our fave organic restaurants to visit, with set menus serving creations picked straight from Riverford Organics veg fields. With Penny’s Poly-tunnel sitting alongside and the Kitchen Garden, full of seeds, organic veg and flowers to explore, visiting for one of their food sittings is a magical experience.
RIVER SWIMMING //
If you’re feeling brave enough, beat the mid-Winter blues by diving into the River Dart at the weir. Wander along the footpath, on your way back from Dartington Estate, through the cow fields and past the bird hide to enjoy the river under blue, frosty skies. The best way (in a wetsuit if you need to!) is to throw your self into the deep end and enjoy the company of Totnes’ free spirits.
